Il Castagno di Piteccio
The 'Il Castagno' Residence is located at Castagno di Piteccio, an ancient village located 500 metres above sea level on a ridge of the Ombrone River valley, famous for its salubrious climate and tranquillity. The cobbled streets passable only on foot, the church dating from the start of the last millennium, and the nineteenth-century fountain make this stop unmissable and unique. Works by artists such as Bueno, Vivarelli, Maccari, Martini and Vaccai, will delight your walk through the streets of this pretty village transformed in the 1970's into a veritable open-air museum. There is a fresco in the small village church by the school of Giotto, which came to light during recent renovations. The village is surrounded by the greenery of chestnut trees (hence the name) and you can walk along the ancient paths which are very interesting in terms of landscape and nature, along with ancient fresh water springs.
